I’ve taken the decision, not lightly, to close The App Bakery at the end of the year. I’ve always had very low, but consistent, sales of my apps, especially HouseTax, but unfortunately the sales have never been enough to justify the effort and cost of running a business.
I would like to thank all of the customers of The App Bakery over the last few years.
If anyone would like to purchase the code and apps to sell for themselves then please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WordTracker (view in app store), a new app developed by The App Bakery was today approved by Apple and released to the App Store. WordTracker provides a way for writers to keep track of their writing projects. Whilst developed and released under the App Bakery name, the app is actually supported by a third party who commissioned the app. Unfortunately, the website is not yet online despite assurances that it would be in place before the launch of the app. In the meantime, you can contact us with any queries and we’ll direct them to the relevant party.
You can follow WordTracker on twitter at @wordtrackerapp.
It’s always a busy time for an app developer when Apple updates hardware and iOS and this year is no different. With the imminent launch of iOS 6 today and the iPhone 5 on Friday, we’ve needed to look at all of our apps in order to ensure they continue to work as expected. Here’s an update for each of our apps;
- Spellorama – an iOS 6 and iPhone 5 version has been submitted for approval. Additionally we’ve improved the word screen to make selection of existing words easier.
- Water Buddy – an iOS 6 and iPhone 5 version has been submitted. An iOS 5 and above version is planned soon which will offer many improvements including Dropbox support.
- HouseTax – getting this app up to date is proving harder as it was the first app ever released by The App Bakery and contains a lot of code which is no longer supported. Due to this we’re holding off updating it and will instead launch a new iOS 5 and above version soon. We know we’ll be leaving behind any users who haven’t upgraded to iOS 5 but it gets harder to support legacy users. If you are a pre-iOS 5 user then drop us a line.
- HouseTax UK – basically the same situation as HouseTax. We’ll look at releasing a new version after the HouseTax update is complete.
One other thing, we’ve a new app in approval at the moment. You can get more information regarding the app by following it on Twitter (@wordtrackerapp) or at the website www.wordtrackerapp.com (coming soon).
As ever, drop us a line if you have any questions regarding our apps. Feedback is always appreciated.
We’re pleased to announce the launch of Spellorama for iPhone and iPod Touch. Spellorama is our first app for kids and comes off the back of an idea from the App Bakery children. Let the Spellorama robot help you learn to spell. Add your own words and keep track of your weekly spelling challenges.
Spellorama is available for 99c in the App Store.
A new release of WaterBuddy has been posted which addresses a couple of bugs and a tidy up in other areas. The details are as follows:
[FIXED] Any switch based (sound, badge, notification etc.) settings now work correctly on iOS 5.
[FIXED] Various bug fixes across the app.
[UPDATED] Removed Appirator “Rate This App” code, we don’t like to be bothered either. But we’d still like it if you rated us on the AppStore!
[UPDATED] Removed Appigo Todo link. Thought long and hard about this one but decided that with the local notifications the app didn’t need another external link.
[UPDATED] Streamlined export. No intermediary screen for email address.
Now that Appirator has been removed, you won’t get bothered to review the app. That said it would be great if you would directly at the app store.
WaterBuddy v2.4 can be downloaded here.
In what has to be the fastest approval for an update we’ve experienced, we’re pleased to announce that the latest versions of HouseTax and HouseTax UK are available in the app store. Both these apps were approved in less than 10 hours after submission!
HouseTax (Australia) now includes the new first time buyer discount for users in Victoria. We’re currently checking all other states and territories to make sure we’re up to date with the duty rates. Please note, due to the speed of the approval we were caught off guard and so the 20% first time buyer discount will apply from today onwards rather than 1/July! [App store link]
HouseTax UK finally includes the new 5% duty rate for properties over £1,000,000. Thanks to one of our users for pointing out that we missed the April 2011 start date for that one! [App Store Link]
